Middle School Cougars Shut Out Sinclair Christian

Piedmont Academy’s Middle School softball team got back on the winning track Monday with a 15-0 win against Sinclair Christian.

A balanced offensive attack helped the team cruise to the win. Taylor Swart was 1-for-1 with a run scored while Jordan Chandler was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored. Matti Smith was 1-for-1 with a run while Caroline Davis added a double, walk and two runs.

MaKennah Holifield was 1-for-2 with a run in Monday’s win while Haley Tyler drew a walk and scored a run. Also contributing were Ashley Johnston, Baylee Keesee, Maddie Mooneyham, Lauren Mosley, O’Neil Sealy, Blakely Arp, Anna Martin, Anne Marie Hildebrant and Ivy English.

“We have three more games to go,” said coach Dan Funt. “It has been a good season. I just hope the girls finish strong.”

Piedmont dropped a 9-6 decision to Tattnall Square Saturday. Davis pitched three innings and recorded five strikeouts. Sealy worked two innings in relief with four strikeouts. Smith also pitched an inning in relief.

At the plate, Bridgette Phillips was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI while Tyler and Chandler were both 1-for-3. Tyler also had a walk, stolen base and two RBI with Chandler adding a run and RBI.

Mosley was 1-for-2 at the plate while Johnston had a sacrifice and a run. Swart drew two walks while Martin had one.

The Middle School Lady Cougars also fell to Gatewood 2-1 last Thursday. Tyler was 1-for-3 with a run and Mosley finished 1-for-2. Smith worked five innings and recorded four strikeouts.
