Firefighters Stay Busy

A transformer on a power pole on Funderburg Drive blew Friday morning, causing a small fire at the Monticello Family Foods. Firefighters were called and quickly extinguished the blaze, but power was knocked out to that store as well as Monticello Farm & Garden for most of the day.

In addition, power blinked at City Hall and elsewhere. About 10 p.m. Sunday, a limb fell on a power line, causing a small fire, as well as a power outage for about three hours to people on Funderburg Drive and in Sanders Heights.

Firefighters were also called to a fire Sunday evening after a tree fell on a house on Deer Run Circle in northern Jasper County. Sunday morning, firefighters responded to a car fire on Greer Road. The cause of that fire is under investigation. Firefighters also have responded to several brush fires in recent weeks. Saturday morning, first responders responded to a wreck on Hwy. 212 west of Monticello.

A tree fell across the road, and was hit by a motorist, then another motorist came along and hit the first one. No one was seriously injured, and firefighters cut the tree from the road.
