Ella Mae Jackson
Ella Mae Miller Jackson, affectionately known to many as “Ma” and to some as “Ella Poochie,” died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at The Retreat Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held last Friday at Maddox Chapel Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Rev. Preston Campbell officiated; burial was in New Community Cemetery in Hillsboro. Pallbearers were Benjamin Tripp, Clarence Miller, David McGuire, Lorenzo Clemons, Lonnie Miller, and Ray Tripp.
Mrs. Jackson was born August 10, 1918 to the late John and Bessie Miller. She was later married to the late Alex Jackson. She grew up in the Hillsboro community where she was employed with Gayle Tillman Marsh and family whom she loved dearly. Living in the Hillsboro community, she became a member of Maddox Chapel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Jackson was a quiet, humble, caring and loving person who always kept a smile on her face, enjoyed listening to music and lived her life through her family and friends.
Survivors include seven grandchildren, Walter Jordan, Michael Ammons, Barbara Lewis, Louella Jackson, Tammy King, Felicia Jackson, and Jeffery Ammons, 17 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; two very special friends, Shelia Pounds of Eatonton and Hattie K. Driskell of Monticello; two special and devoted nieces, Mary and Inez Armstrong of Austell, and a host of other relatives.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by three daughters, Ann Jackson, Betty Ammons and Bessie Jordan; three sisters, Vera Small, Irene Armstrong, and Johnnie Owens, and two brothers, George Miller and Henry Miller.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
