Nature Photo Contest Ends Today

The deadline for the second annual nature photography contest co-sponsored by Jordan Funeral Home and The Monticello News is tomorrow, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m. when The News office closes.
Anyone wanting to enter needs to be sure to have their entries turned in by then. Envelopes are available at The News office, 237 West Washington Street, Monticello, to complete the necessary information and submit the photos into the proper category.
Categories are wildlife, landscapes and wildflowers, and there is a special category this year of cicadas. Photographers may enter up to three photos in each category.

There will be one grand prize for the overall best of show. The winner will receive a Canon Rebel SLR 18 mp camera, a 70-300 Canon Lens with image stabilizer, and a ribbon.
There will be one best of show in each category. The below-16 photo receiving the most points will receive a trophy and a ribbon.
Photographs must be submitted to The Monticello News, as a print; no smaller than 5×7 and no larger than 8.5×11.
The contest is open to all Jasper County residents and all subscribers to The Monticello News. No employees or their immediate families of The Monticello News or Jordan Funeral Home may enter. No one who makes the majority of his or her income as a photographer or artist may enter.
Only minor computer enhancement of the photos is allowed. All photos must have been taken since July 31, 2008. By entering the contest, the photographer gives The News permission to publish the photo(s).
Only native wildflowers are allowed in the wildflower category. Wildlife photos can be all native animal life from butterflies to bears. No pets, no exotic or captive animals.
