Secretary of State Visits

Georgia Secretary of State Brian P. Kemp visited Jasper County last week, making stops at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the Probate Court, which is also the elections center of the county, and at the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce.
He had his photo taken with COC Chairman of the Board Angela Spivey (left) and Executive Director Anna Mickle. Mr. Kemp explained what all his office oversees, such as all licensure in the state, the regulation of securities, as well as elections. He shared some of his background with the people at COC.
He talked about the zero-based budgeting that his office is doing right now, and talked about transparency in his office, as all the budgeting and much more is available to see online. He also told about the “Cut the Red Tape” website that he has implemented.
Before being elected to secretary of state, Mr. Kemp served in the state Senate from 2002-2006. He said he is working on a streamlined voter registration process that would allow voters statewide to register online. He also implemented a website to stop voter fraud.
