Photography Contest Deadline is September 2

The deadline for the Nature Photography Contest sponsored by The Monticello News and Jordan Funeral Home is nearing, so contestants need to get their prints made and submit their entries.
The second annual contest is open to all Jasper County residents and all subscribers of The Monticello News. No employees or their immediate families of The Monticello News or Jordan Funeral Home may enter. No one who makes the majority of his or her income as a photographer or artist may enter.
Only minor computer enhancement of the photos is allowed. All photos must have been taken in Georgia or a state bordering Georgia since July 31, 2008.
Photos will be judged in three categories with two age groups in each category—16 and younger, and older than 16.

•The wildlife category includes all native animal life from butterflies to bears. No pets, no exotic or captive animals will be considered. No animals may be harmed during the taking of the photo.
•Landscapes is another category. This includes all natural places were animals live. All identifiable plants in the photo should be native plants. Man made objects and people may be in the photo as long as they enhance the naturalness of the photos. People should not be identifiable. (The sponsor will be the final judge of the appropriateness of this.)
•Wildflowers is the third category, and only native wildflowers are acceptable.
This year there is one special additional category, and that is Cicadas. Any photo with a cicada in it will qualify, and the judges will try to choose the best.
There will be one grand prize for the overall Best of Show. The winner will receive a Canon Rebel SLR 18 mp camera, a 70-300 Canon lens with image stabilizer, and a ribbon. There will also be a best of show in each category. The winner of the 16 and younger division will receive a trophy and ribbon.
All other photos which receive a certain number of points will receive a first, second or third place ribbon.
Photos must be submitted to The Monticello News, 237 West Washington Street, as a print. Prints should not be smaller than 5×7 or larger than 8.5×11. Special envelopes are provided for the submissions.
The name, phone number and category must be on the back of each photo. One photographer may not submit more than three photos per category.
