Officer Shoots Man After Altercation

GBI INVESTIGATES SATURDAY’S CRIME SCENE

Last Saturday morning, at about 7 a.m., gun shots rang out on MLK Drive resulting in two persons being shot. Dorothy Tinsley was reportedly shot in the stomach and the leg, and Rudolph Clements was shot in the lower leg. Both victims were transferred to the hospital and are recovering this week.

The alleged shooter was identified as Charles Lynch, who fled the scene, but was apprehended in the woods behind a trailer park on Hillsboro Street. Once law enforcement arrived at the scene and determined what happened, officers sought the gunman. When he was located in the woods, he brandished a firearm, and was shot by a deputy of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), who has yet to be identified.

The shootings woke up the neighborhood and all the 911 lines lit up with people calling about it. The areas of the shootings are primarily in the city of Monticello, but right at the city limits. Monticello police officers and Jasper County deputies and investigators all worked on the case.

After being treated for his gun shot wound and released from the hospital, Mr. Lynch was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, and placed under a $200,000 bond.
