Jewell West Gilbert
Jewell West Gilbert, 74, of Monticello, died Friday, August 5, 2011, at her residence.
Mrs. Gilbert was born in Ellijay, to the late Western West and Della Evans West. She lived in Clayton County for a number of years before moving to Jasper County in 1972. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Before retirement, she worked as a secretary for the Jasper County Commissioners. For a number of years, Mrs. Gilbert worked as a secretary for the Jasper County work farm. She farmed and loved to garden. Her husband, Earl Eugene Gilbert, preceded her in death after 46 years of marriage.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, David Monroe and Grace Gilbert of Covington, and Dwight Clay Gilbert of Monticello; grandchildren and spouse, Patrick and Priscilla Gilbert, Luke Gilbert, and Heaven Travis; and sisters, Izell Richards of Ellijay, and Antha Bennett of Royston.
Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Jordan Funeral Home, with burial in Williams Payne Cemetery. Rev. Ed Lewallen was to officiate.
Pallbearers were to be Scott Alden, Luke Gilbert, Patrick Gilbert, Robert Gilbert, Kevin McMichael, and Carlos Rhoades.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Jordan Funeral Home, 264 Hillsboro St., Monticello.
