Firefighters Stay Busy

Jasper County volunteer firefighters have been busy in the last week, responding to three structure fires in the space of five days, along with spending all day Saturday and Sunday morning looking for a missing person, and assisting at the Shady Dale Rodeo.

Last Friday, they responded to a structure fire on Maddox Road in northern Jasper County. When they arrived the large home was fully engulfed. It, along with seven acres, burned. The fire appeared to have started by a power line with limbs on it arcing.

Firefighters had a similar call on Tuesday at the far northwestern corner of the county where a home, barn and 15.9 acres were on fire. Sunday’s structures were outbuildings behind a home on Harvey Street in Monticello. One of three outbuildings was saved, and damage to the home was limited. A short was to blame.
