Virgil Tucker Murphy, Jr.
Virgil Tucker Murphy, Jr., 70, of Foley, Ala., formerly of Monticello, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in Foley.
Mr. Murphy was born in Monticello to the late Virgil Tucker Murphy, Sr. and Rebecca Kelly Murphy.
He was a graduate of Monticello High School and a kicker for the Monticello Hurricanes that won the State Championship Class C Football Teams in the years 1955 and 1956. He attended the University of Georgia and played football. After attending college, he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
A daughter, Dee Dee Murphy preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia B. Murphy of Foley, Ala.; children, Kelly Heaton, Tucker Murphy, Laura Wojtysiak, and Susan Murphy, all of Grandberry, Texas; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sarah Murphy Calies of Monticello.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Monticello Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 2 p.m. to celebrate the life of Mr. Murphy.
