The Jasper County 4-H Archery team attended a state tournament at Rock Eagle recently where 12 participants from Jasper County competed, along with 504 individuals from other counties.

The competitors included in the Cloverleaf division (fifth and sixth grade), Taylor Bishop, Grayson Bradley, Chasen Edge, Kayla Henderson, Davis Jones, Kirsten Pettis and Will Tillman.

In the Junior division (seventh and eighth grade) Tayler Bowden, Levi Ford, Shawn Neely and Seth Pettis competed.
In the Senior division (ninth through twelfth grade) Joseph Caldwell was Jasper’s only contender.

The star shooter of the day was Miss Pettis who was awarded a medal for coming in fourth place out of 39 in the Cloverleaf Novice division.

Mr. Caldwell also did very well and came in the top 20 of 80 competing in the Senior division.

Mr. Tillman had the high score for our county in the Cloverleaf compound division with a score of 298, and Mr. Neely had the highest score of the day for the county with a 314.

Those who attended to diligently support and coach the archers were Liz Caldwell, Gretchen Pruett, Cliff Bowden, Hung “Chief” Cole, Dominique Ford and Scott Ford who also served as line judge for the day.

This was the second year competing in 4-H archery and all the kids have really improved and done very well this year, said Kasey Reid, 4-H director.

The teams have been practicing once a week since last August and will keep practicing once or twice a month throughout the summer.
