Trials Result in Guilty Verdict

A Jasper County jury found two of the Irish Travelers guilty, and one not guilty, in a trial which concluded last Wednesday.
Bryan Garrard Gorman was found guilty of burglary and giving false name, Bryan Jude Gorman was found guilty of burglary, and both were sentenced to eight years to serve by Judge James L. Cline, presiding. A third defendant, Johnny Jude Gorman was found not guilty on the charge of burglary.

In a second trial last Thursday, May 19, a jury found Miranda Dover guilty of driving under the influence and driving under the influence/less safe. Ms. Dover was sentenced to 12 months probation, 10 days jail time and fines and fees of $1,445.

Also, prior to going to trial, William J. Wilson negotiated three separate charges down to one and pled guilty to sale of marijuana, and was sentenced to five years to be served on probation and fines and fees of $1,882.

In addition, the Jasper County Superior Court Motion Day convened Tuesday, May 24, with Judge William A. Prior, Jr., presiding, in which the probation of the following individuals were revoked:
•Lori Straka had her probation revoked for the new charge of possession of cocaine and was sentenced to two years with one year to serve and the remainder on probation.

•Antonio D. Dumas had his probation revoked for the new charge of obstruction of officer and was sentenced to 12 months to serve.

•Jerry Henry Brown, who was on probation for the conviction of theft by taking on November 15, 2010, had his probation revoked for the new charge of failure to report and failure to pay court ordered fines and fees, and was sentenced to serve 180 days in the Jasper County Jail with credit for time served since April 14, 2011.

•Shannon Lee Lane had her probation revoked for unspecified charges and was sentenced to remain in the Jasper County Jail through January 1, 2012.
