Stolen Human Remains Are Found
A burglary was reported to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) on Sunday, May 15, by James W. Dailey at his residence on Hwy 142 in Newborn.
Among the items takes were the cremated remains of his late wife, which were inside a jewelry box. Mr. Dailey made an appeal for the perpetrator(s) to please return his wife’s ashes.
On Wednesday, May 18, the Jasper County Sheriff’s office received a call from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office investigators notifying them that inmates working at the Newton County Landfill had recovered the oak urn containing the stolen cremains of Mrs. Dailey.
Jasper County investigators went to the scene and determined the urn to be that which was taken from Mr. Dailey. They had a photograph of the urn and there was a crematory tag attached to the urn. The cremains were returned to Mr. Dailey on Wednesday.
Other items reported missing were 10 one dollar gold coins, a Citizen watch, a 14K gold bracelet, a 14K gold diamond cluster ring, and a 14K gold ring with a case emblem. Also, a Browning lever action rifle, a Marlin lever action rifle with a social security number engraved in the trigger guard, a Savage bolt action rifle, a Marlin semi automatic rifle, four Redfield rifle scopes, a Case folding knife, and a Buck folding knife.
During the period of May 11 through May 17 the JCSO reported these additional criminal activities:
•On May 15 a resident in Edwards Mobile Home Park in Shady Dale reported the theft of an I-POD silver/black touch screen C21DNLB3DCP7.
•On May 14 a citizen reported the theft of four rocking chairs from his business on Goolsby Road.
•On May 13 a resident on Blue Heron Drive reported the theft of a Nintendo hand held game system.
•On May 12 a resident on Sourwood Drive in Mansfield reported the theft of a Goodman air conditioning unit.
•On May 11 a resident on Bobcat Trail in Mansfield reported the theft of a Power Pro Generator, a Porter Cable air compressor model CFFN251T, a Home-lite Pressure washer model number CT80709, a Porter Cable nailer model number BN125A, a Porter Cable stapler model number N5100D, a finish nailer model number FN250B, large tools, an impact set, a rolling work shop and miscellaneous air tools.
•On May 11 a resident on Starling Drive in Turtle Cove reported the theft of a hand tool bag, a Dewalt portable band saw, a Makita grinder, a Milwaukee sawzaw, a Makita drill, a hammer and a four foot level.
•On May 11 a resident on Herd’s Creek Road reported the a burglary in which a Winchester semi-automatic, a Winchester 12 gauge shotgun, an unknown make of a semi-automatic shotgun, a Remington rifle, a Polaris Sportsman 500 automatic four wheeler, a Dewalt drill, a Ryobi cordless drill, a Ryobi circular saw, a Ryobi cordless saw, assorted camo clothes, two boxes of Winchester ammunition, a Walker game ear, a mesh bag and a set of Cabelas binoculars.

Also, during the period of May 10 through 17 the JCSO reported the following arrests:
•Lisa Paige Harper, 41, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to change address in 60 days and tail light violation.
•Joseph Drew Davis, 38, Newborn—hold for warrant in Newton County.
•Willie Lee Rhodes, 40, Union Point—Jasper County Superior Court bench warrant.
•Kenneth Lee Lazenby, 52, Monticello—battery.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 132 calls for service including 31 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 12 theft by taking, eight alarm, seven four wheeler, six each assist motorist, mechanical break down and subject needs officer, five each domestic and pick up prisoner, and four each burglary and livestock on road.
Also, three each escort or convoy, juvenile complaint and vandalism of property, two each dog disturbance, courtesy ride, child abuse/molestation, welfare check music/noise complaint and attempt to serve warrant, one each fight, accident, direct traffic, fire alarm, mental person, deliver emergency message, extra patrol, disorderly, trouble unknown, road hazard, trespassing, argument VGCSA, identity fraud/theft, seizure, test call and 911 hang up.
In addition, during the period of May 14 through April 30 the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following criminal activity:
•On May 14 the Dollar General Store on Hwy 16 west reported the theft by taking of a bag of Angel Soft tissue.
•On May 14 a resident on Five Points Street reported the theft by taking of $400 in cash
•On April 30 a resident on Culver Street reported the burglary of unspecified items.

•Kenneth Dewayne Stone, Jr., 18, Monticello—Jasper County Superior Court bench warrant.
•Ronnie Eugene Goolsby, 46, Monticello—pedestrian under the influence and open container.
•Ray Banks, 53, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
During this same period officers with the MPD responded to 59 calls for service including 17 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five subject needs officer, three each escort or convoy, music/noise complaint and checking location.
Also, two each theft by taking, assault, juvenile complaint, trouble unknown, vandalism of property and sick, one each domestic, assist motorist, accident/deer, accident with no injuries, mechanical break down, chest pain, child abuse/molestation, crowd dis-bursement, threatening/harassing calls, property found, shoplifter, illegal dumping/littering and 911 hang up.
