Lady Cougars Advance in Soccer Playoffs
The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars soccer team advanced in the state playoffs after a 2-0 win against Christian Heritage last week.
Piedmont will host First Presbyterian Christian Academy of Hinesville today, May 12, at 5:30 p.m. School officials are planning a “white out” for the game where fans wear white colored outfits.
The second-round opponent was not known until late Tuesday night, leaving little preparation time for the team.
Lanie King and Jordon Blackmon scored goals for the Lady Cougars in their opening-round win while Carley Cain had a strong performance in goal, coach Dwain Landress said.

“We had played them twice during the season and it’s always tough to play a team three times,” Landress said. “Overall, we outplayed them.”
Piedmont led 1-0 at halftime although its coach said the margin could have been more.
“We just weren’t able to finish opportunities,” Landress said. “In the second half, I’d say 70 percent of the time was spent on their side of the field.”
Mary Ashlynn Dennis had an assist in the win.
“We got everyone playing time late,” Landress said. “We didn’t want to risk injury. We weren’t going to take any chances and push the envelope.”
The coach said Cain’s performance helped set the tone.
“If she continues to perform that way, we will have a chance moving forward,” Landress said. “Team-wise, it was a good overall performance. We did what we needed to do.”
The Lady Cougars are now one win away from the Final Four..
