Community Band Concert

The Monticello Community Band and Choir presented Great Hymns and Church History at a concert held last Friday at Monticello Baptist Church.
Jehan El-Jourbagy directs the band, and she read the history of several Jasper County churches between each musical piece. The band opened with Fantasy on an African American Spiritual, which was followed by Abide with Me which featured hand bells from Monticello Presbyterian Church.
The Men’s Quartet of Stone Workman, Jimmy Jordan, Ken Sanvidge and Steve Jordan sang a special arrangement of Will the Circle by Unbroken. After more church history, the band played Amazing Grace, followed by Nearer My God To Thee.
The Monticello Community Choir joined the band for a traditional Irish tune, Be Thou My Vision. Next was On an American Spiritual, then Just a Closer Walk with Thee. All were band arrangements, very different from the typical church hymns. The final piece was Lead On, O King Eternal wit the band and choir. The church was virtually full for the performance and the senior high school students were honored at their last concert.
