Edward “Eddie” Alphonse Damour, Jr. died on April 19, 2011.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at Hillsboro United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
Born in Macon on April 26, 1938, he spent his early years in Waynesville, N.C. but resided most of his life in Hillsboro.
He was the son of the late Edward A. Damour, Sr. and Mozelle Damour Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Edward Damour and a sister, Sara Jo Thomas.
Mr. Damour graduated from Waynesville Township High School and earned his teaching degree at the University of Georgia. He later served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from teaching at Jones County High School in Gray. He enjoyed spending time with his family, studying maps, reading, gardening and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Phyllis Noland Damour; a sister, Patricia Thomas Hooper, of Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, George B. Damour and his wife, Sylvia, of Gray,; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, at 11:30 a.m. at Maple Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. James G. Mackey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
