Doris Louise Gantt

Funeral services for Doris Louise Gantt, who died April 28, 2011, were held Monday, May 2, at Griggs Chapel A.M.E. Church, with Rev. Joe L. McKibben officiating. Burial was in Griggs Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Gantt was born September 25, 1926 in Jasper County to Orilious and Carrie Robinson. She was the youngest of 11 children.

She joined Springfield Baptist Church in Newborn at an early age. She later moved her membership to Shady Grove Baptist Church in Shady Dale where she served faithfully until her health failed.
Mrs. Gantt was educated in the rural Jasper County School System, and her hobbies were sewing, cooking and flowers.

She was married in November, 1956, to Bob Gantt, who preceded her in death. Other family members who preceded her in death include Eppie, Gertie, and Lizzie Kate; brothers, Rilious, Malcolm, John Thomas, Eddie Marvin, Charlie Henry, and Isom.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Gantt and Barbara Ann Gantt, both of Monticello; a brother, George Robinson of Wyndmoor, Pa., two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lucile Kelly of Monticello and Mrs. Jacqueline Robinson of Decatur, and a number of other relatives and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
