A violent storm hit the state Wednesday night and officials speculated that one tornado touched down briefly in Jasper County.

A small area of Clay Road, betwween Freedonia and Nelson Roads, was hit hard, with four or five residences damaged.

In addition, power was out in Shady Dale, having cut off in the height of the storm and remaining off at midmorning Thursday. Many of those are Georgia Power customers. Central Georgia EMC said more than 4,000 remained without power at mid-morning.
