‘Canes Drop Out of Playoff Contention

The Diamond ‘Canes were eliminated from the playoff hunt last week when they lost to Putnam 9-3.
With a current overall record of 9-12 and a region record of 5-8, it will be the first time the team hasn’t gone to post season play since 2006.
Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “Putnam just did what it took and we didn’t. It was a make or break game for us and the results eliminated us from playoff contention. Lamar would have to lose two games to Greene for us to qualify, and since Greene has forfeited the remainder of their season, that’s not going to happen.”
The team did pick up a win by forfeit versus Greene County last Friday, which was also scheduled for Senior Night, and had to be canceled.
They were scheduled to play Crawford County on the road this past Tuesday, and also Newton County away this past Wednesday, both too late to report the results in this edition.
The team’s last game of the season is scheduled versus Lamar County, also on the road, at 6 p.m. tomorrow, April 29.
