Margaret Lawson Mathews

Margaret Lawson Mathews of Monticello died Monday, April 18, 2011 at Abbey Hospice.

She was born on March 7, 1927 in Mansfield, to James Otis and Lola Sue Brooks Lawson. She was a long time member of Harmony Baptist Church in Covington. She loved gardening, playing cards, playing with her grandchildren, and entertaining her large family and friends. She spent countless hours on her porch and dock watching the activities on the lake.

Mrs. Mathews is survived by daughter and son-in-law: Judy and Gary Watson of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law: Billy and Jamie Lawson of Tucker, Jack and Renee Lawson of Loganville; sisters, Reba Reynolds of Morrow, Cora Richardson of Monticello, Betty Maughon of Oxford; grandchildren, Jennifer and Scott Stanley of Jacksonville, N.C., Jessica and Starsky New, Julie Watson, and Jamie Watson, all of Covington; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Russell L. Mathews; parents, James Otis Lawson and Lola Sue Brooks Lawson. and brothers, James Clark Lawson and Charles Wayne Lawson.

Services will be held today, April 21, at 2 p.m. at Solid Rock Baptist Church with Revs. Jack Lawson, Phillip Jones, and Kenneth Jacques officiating.

The family will meet at the church from 1 p.m. until service time for viewing at the church. Interment will be at New Covington Cemetery.
