Lady Cane Golfers Advance to State

The Lady ‘Canes golfers played themselves to a second place finish in the 2011 Region 4-AA Tournament this past Monday, at Hard Labor Golf Course in Rutledge, where they defeated Pike County by one stroke.
Scottiann Cummings lead the team by placing fourth in the region. Taylor Moss was eighth, while Taylor Garrett finished in eleventh place out of the 17 competitors.
Their second place finish earned the ladies a trip to the state tournament for the third time in four years. This year the state AA tournament will be held at Long Shadow Golf Course in Madison on May 2.
Head Golf Coach Matt Tumlin said, “We’ll be working hard on the girls’ fundamentals of their swing for the next two weeks to prepare them for the tougher competition at the state level.”
The boys’ team ended the day by finishing in fourth place out of the seven teams in the region that sport golf teams. Matt Allen posted the low score for the ‘Canes, placing an 86 on the board, putting him in ninth place. Michael Kline finished in 21st place, Timmy Postlethwait and Clint Pound ended in a tie for 25th, while Will Wade finished in 30th and Jimmy Cheek in 33rd out of a total of 41 golfers competing.
Coach Tumlin went on to say he was proud of all the golfers as they showed their integrity
