Chase Ends In Crash at Turtle Cove

A Georgia State Patrol officer chased a motorcycle last Thursday down Hwy. 212, and into Turtle Cove where the chase ended with the motorcycle crashing while traveling south on Whipporwill Drive.

The motorcycle struck a drain culvert, overturned and ejected Richard Alan Cvengros. An investigation of the crash revealed the motor cycle was stolen and Mr. Cvengros was charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

He was also charged with giving false name and address to an officer, driving while license suspended or revoked, hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, driving while unlicensed or expired license, failure to maintain lane, use of license plate for purpose of concealing, and buying/selling/receiving/concealing/using/possession or disposing of motor vehicle parts from which identification has been removed.

Also, during the period of April 12 through 18 the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported the following criminal activity:

•On April 18 a theft of utilities was reported at a commercial building on Martin Luther King Drive in Monticello.

•On April 16 a burglary was reported at a residence on Robin Court in Turtle Cove in which two laptop computers, a Nintendo, and two IPOD’s were reported taken.

•On April 16 a theft by taking was reported by a residence on Wendy Hill Road in West Jasper County in which a Honda Accord was stolen.

•On April 13 a theft by taking was reported by a resident on Sandpiper Drive in Alcovy Shores in which a fish tank was reported stolen from the yard.

•On April 13 a burglary was reported by a commercial storage building on Jackson Lake Road where multiple entries were made and unspecified items removed.

•On April 12 a theft by taking was reported by a residence on Hwy 16 in East Jasper County where an Oldsmobile Cutlass was taken.
In addition, during the period of April 12 through 19 the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Gregory Wayne Beaver, 34, Auburn—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, DUI less safe, open container, and duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of an accident.

•Kenneth Dewayne Stone, Jr., 18, Monticello—theft by taking.

•Willie Cornelius Davis, 37, Covington—deposit account fraud (two counts).

•Maynard Elroy Ratzel, 35, Monticello—battery.

•Jerry Henry Brown, 29, McDonough—probation violation.

•Don Manuel Miller, III, 26, Monticello—false report of a crime (two counts), and burglary.

•Victoria Brianna Smith, 18, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 152 calls for service including 26 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 13 each alarm and subject needs officer, 12 accident, seven livestock on road, six each domestic, mechanical breakdown and road hazard, five assist motorist, four each theft by taking, juvenile complaint and burglary.

Also, three each prowler report, intoxicated driver, and assault, two each fight, escort or convoy, fire/vehicle, pick up prisoner, extra patrol, threatening/harassing calls, argument and attempt to serve warrant, one each dog disturbance, speeding auto, intoxicated pedestrian, hit and run, direct traffic, fire/other, chase in progress, wanted/stolen, be on the look out, miscellaneous EMS, overdose, welfare check, four wheeler, child custody, trouble unknown, music/noise complaint, vandalism of property trespassing, persons refuse to leave and abandoned vehicle.

Also, during the period mentioned above the Monticello Police Department reported the arrest of Elizabeth Ann Glover, 37, of Monticello, and charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, duty to give information and render aid, open container and duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of accident.

During this period officers with the MPD responded to 60 calls for service including 20 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, six subject needs officer, four each alarm and music/noise complaint, three theft by taking, two each burglary, mechanical breakdown, and juvenile complaint, one each fight, dog disturbance, assist motorist, speeding auto, hit and run, escort or convoy, wanted/stolen, fall, welfare check, discharge firearms, private property, trouble unknown, threatening/harassing calls, shoplifter, trespassing and 911 hang up.
