Henry “Bubba” Battle

Henry “Bubba” Battle was born February 20, 1928 in Monticello to the late Henry Battle and Ella Sands Battle. He died March 25.

Mr. Battle was a member of Rock Zion C.M.E. Church. He was employed at Feldspar Corporation in Monticello as an equipment mechanic for more than 30 years. He retired in the spring of 1989.

Mr. Battle attended school in Jasper County, and enjoyed working on cars, spending time with his family, fishing and the great outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

A sister, Lelia Jackson, preceded him in death.


Survivors include his wife, Vernice Battle; three sons, Joseph Battle, Terry Battle, and Steve Battle; four daughters, Abigail Roach, Tomasia Ammons, Barbara Sands and Susie Standifer, all of Monticello; three sisters, Mildred Rogers, Ventine Rich, both of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Martha Gainey of Monticello; a brother, Roosevelt Battle of Monticello, 18 grandcildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives and friends.

A private family service was held Wednesday March 30, in the chapel of Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Monticello. Rev. Terry Glawson officiated; burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangementes.
