Piedmont Track Gets to Compete

After a couple of delays, Piedmont Academy’s track team was able to usher in the 2011 season and compete last week at Gatewood in Eatonton. The boys were sixth overall while the Lady Cougars took eighth as a team. Several Piedmont athletes had quality outings.
For the girls, Heather Tyler was fourth in the 3,200-meter run (15:10) while Destiny Walker took sixth in the shot put (26-5) and seventh in the discuss (66-3.) Marissa Mooneyham was sixth in the 1,600-meter run (7:32).

Zach Benjamin was the winner in the 200-meter dash (24.19) and third in the 100-meter dash (11.53).
Rhett Roberts was sixth in the high jump (5-4) and Bobby Mitchell was sixth in the long jump (16-7.5). Peter Lawson was eighth in the 200-meter dash (25.96) while Austin Bass was eighth in the 3,200-meter run (13:38).

“Some of our times were a little slower than I expected,” said coach Rhett Farmer. “It was our first time running on that surface. We have to practice on our football field. It was also our first meet so we will get better. Overall, I was pleased with the effort.”
Piedmont was scheduled to traveled to Brentwood Wednesday and is continuing to prepare for the Region 1-AA meet in April.
