‘Canes Win One, Lose One

JV CHASE CARON IS SAFE AT FIRST

In their latest action last Friday the Diamond ‘Canes suffered a region loss to Putnam 9-4 at home.

It would have been a 4-4 tie had not the ‘Canes given up five runs in the top of the first inning. Clay Hardy was on the mound and took the loss after Kevin Camp came on to shut them down. At the plate Sadarious Rooks went 4 for 4, and Jonathan Bell went 3 for 4 to keep them in the game.

Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “It was a game where we were outplayed and out coached. We left the bases loaded two times while we hit five line drives that if they had found a hole we could have won. We were playing solid baseball up until that game.”

Prior to that game the ‘Canes traveled to Milledgeville and defeated Baldwin 11-4. Brady McMichael got the win, and Shane Pulliam came on to pitch shut out ball the last three innings.
A.J. Thomas was 2 for 4. Dee Chapman, Bell and Rooks also had a good day at the plate. This was another revenge win as the ‘Canes lost 14-8 to Baldwin earlier in the season.

The game scheduled for Tuesday versus Greene County has been postponed, due to weather, and will be rescheduled later in the season.

The ‘Canes were scheduled to play a three-game home stand beginning yesterday versus Crawford County, too late to report in this edition, versus Larmar County tomorrow, Friday, April 1 at 5 p.m., and versus Morgan County next Tuesday, April 5, also at 5 p.m.
Coach Jenkins said, “This three-game home stand will make or break our season for us. We’ll either put ourselves in a position to be in the playoffs, or we’ll be looking from the outside in.”
In Junior Varsity action, the JV ‘Canes suffered a loss to region rival Putnam last Friday at home in a game prior to the varsity game.
