Spring Is Here

The daffodils (at right) are blooming, along with the cherry trees, dogwoods, and lots more as spring officially arrives in Jasper County and throughout the country.
Bringing spring in last weekend was a gigantic moon, reportedly the biggest one in years (because of its proximity to earth). Temperatures Saturday soared near 80, but Sunday was more springlike with temperatures in the 60s. It started warming up this week with temperatures in the 70s Monday.
An annual spring event here is the Kiwanis Talent Show. This year’s show was held Tuesday evening, March 22, and the winners will be featured in next week’s Monticello News. Spring holidays for local schools are set for April 4-8. With the pretty spring weather, now is a great time to take photos for everyone interested in competing in the second annual nature photography contest (see story, page 10).
