The long awaited automatic sprinkler system is now installed and operational, and self supplied with water from the lake on the department’s property.

Work on the new fields is continuing with burning and clearing going on. Work on the project is all volunteer, with no completion date determined, but eventually it will be a football and soccer field, more baseball and softball fields, a walking track, and possibly a kids playground.

Upcoming events sponsored by the department are as follows:
•A trip to the University of Georgia girls softball game on Saturday, May 7. The cost is $10 per person and covers admission to the game, a tour of the facilities and a Chic-fil-A tailgate lunch, with no limit on the number of attendees.

•A trip to the University of Georgia baseball team’s game versus the University of Florida on Sunday, April 17. The cost is also $10 per person and covers admission, tour and Chic-fil-A lunch. The trip is limited to 30 people, and only four spots were open as of Tuesday.

•An archery contest on Saturday, April 30, when R-100 (www.R100.org) will set up 100 targets on the Disk Golf Course across from the recreation department. Participants can shoot 100 targets a day or 50 on Saturday and 50 on Sunday. The cost for this event will be available in about a week. Two more archery tournaments will be scheduled later in the summer in conjunction with the Deer Capitol.

•Saturday, May 21 is Spring Movie Night. This will be the second anniversary of this event. The title of the movie and other details of the event will be forthcoming from the recreation department.
