Lady Canes Triumph on the Court

The Lady ‘Canes tennis team traveled to Greene County last Thursday, March 17, and picked up a 4-1 win in a Region 4AA match.
In the number one singles Emily Hallas won 8-3; in the number two singles Kayla Bartlett won 8-2, and in the number three singles Courtney Carter also won 8-2.

The ladies lost the number one doubles 9-8 in a tiebreaker. They were down 4-0 in the beginning of the match, but came back to force it to a tiebreaker. In the number two doubles Gabriela Bautista and Keosha Warren won 8-1.

The win put them into a tie with Lamar County for third place in the region. They were scheduled to travel to Lamar this past Tuesday for a match to break the tie and determine the third and fourth seed going into the region tournament on April 13 at Morgan County. The match took place too late to report the results in this issue.

They were also scheduled for a match with Jones County at home yesterday, March 23, also too late to report in this edition, and are scheduled to travel to Northeast Macon today, March 24, for a match beginning at 4:30 pm.

Prior to defeating Greene County the team lost a match 5-0 to Alcovy, a AAAA classification school.

Head Tennis Coach Paul Stokes said, “The girls have been scheduled against some stiff non-region competition, and that competition has made them better. They have stepped up and played well, and our goal is to be number four after the region tournament.”

The boys team lost 4-1 to Alcovy last week in a non-region match. They were also scheduled to travel to Lamar County this past Tuesday to break a tie for second place in the region, too late to report in this edition. They were also scheduled to travel to Jones County yesterday, also too late to report the results.
