Diamond Cougars Are Rained Out Tuesday
Piedmont Academy’s scheduled baseball game against Gatewood Tuesday was postponed due to weather conditions.
Coach Danny Camp said late Tuesday afternoon the game would be played today, March 17 at 4:30 p.m. at home.
Prior to Tuesday, Piedmont opened Region 1-AA play with an 11-0 win against Monsignor Donovan.
Cole Hamilton earned the win going the distance and striking out 12 batters. “Cole is tough,” Camp said. “When he’s on the mound we seem to be a different club.”
Josh Brennan was 3-for-3 with a home run and a double, while Daniel Leinweber and Jakey Dunagan added two RBIs each.

The Cougars dropped a 14-1 decision to Windsor Saturday.
“They are one of the favorites in the region,” Camp said. “They are good. Right now they are better than us. They probably aren’t 14-1 better. We gave them two big innings which really hurt us.”
The Knights scored seven runs in the second and five more in the fifth to seize control.
“In both of those innings we could have been out of it with giving up just one run,” Camp said.
“We have to get better and make routine plays, especially against teams like that. We didn’t help our own cause. We also didn’t have a good day at the plate. When you combine that with poor defense, you are going to end up on the wrong end of things.”
The Piedmont coach said things will not get any easier for his team.
The Cougars will travel to Covenant in Macon Friday for a 4:30 p.m. region contest. Piedmont then steps out of region play with two games Saturday at home against John Hancock (11 a.m.) and Loganville Christian (3:30 p.m.).
The 1-AA slate begins again Tuesday against Brentwood at home at 4:30 p.m.
