‘Canes Are Dominant On the Court
The ’Cane tennis team traveled to Eatonton Monday and the boys’ team defeated GMC 3-2.
Austin Pierce won 8-2 in the number two singles, Adrian Campbell and German Garibay won 8-2 in the number one doubles, and Walt Rabon and Uriel Garibay won 8-0 in the number two doubles. The girls lost 4-1, however, Gabriela Bautista won 8-4 in the number two singles.
Last Thursday at home versus Putnam, in their first region match, the girls won their first match of the year 4-1.
Emily Hallas won 8-5 in the number one singles, Kiki Warren and Amy Labriola won 8-4 in the number one doubles, and Olivia Aldridge and Savannah Holcombe won 8-5 in the number two doubles.

The number three singles was a win by forfeit. The boys won 4-0 as Phillips Workman won 8-1 in the number one singles, Pierce won 8-3 in the number two singles, and Deonte Norwood won 8-0 in the number three singles.
Rabon and U. Garibay won 8-0 in the number one doubles and the number two doubles was a win by forfeit.
Last Tuesday, March 8, the team traveled to Pike County where the boys won 3-1. Workman won 9-7 in the number one singles, the team won the number two singles by forfeit, and Norwood won the number three singles 8-4.
Campbell and G. Garibay won 9-7 in the number one doubles, and the number two doubles was canceled due to darkness. The girls lost 3-0.
Head Tennis Coach Paul Stokes said, “The boys are tied for second place in the region, and if we can beat Lamar, we’ll go to the region tournament as the number two seed. The girls won their first match of the year and are playing well.”
The team was scheduled to play Alcovy at home yesterday, March 16, too late to report in this edition.
The girls only are scheduled to travel to Greene County today, Thursday, March 17. The team is scheduled to travel to Lamar next Tuesday, March 22 and to Jones County next Wednesday, March 23.
