Canes Take to the Tennis Courts

The ‘Cane boys played Salem (AAAA) to a 2-2 tie on the tennis court last Wednesday, March 2, in their second match of the season, during which Phillips Workman lost a very close 9-7 singles match.
The number two doubles team of German Garibay and Adrian Campbell won 9-7, and the number two doubles team of Walt Rabon and Uriel Garibay won 8-2.

The Lady ‘Canes lost 8-3 after all three singles matches ended in defeat. However the number one doubles team of Kaitlan Needham and Ami Labrolia won 8-3, and the number two doubles team of Kiki Warren and Christin Jackson also won by a score of 8-3.

Last Tuesday, March 2, in their first match of the season the boys and girls were both defeated 5-0 by a strong Morgan County team which has just dropped down from AAA.

Head Tennis Coach Paul Stokes said, “We knew we were going to be up against a dominant team, however some of our players played much better than we expected.”

The teams were scheduled to travel to Pike County Tuesday, too late to report in this edition. Also, the team is scheduled for their first home action today, March 10, versus Putnam, with an approximate starting time of 4:30 p.m.

The match originally scheduled with Greene County on March 3, has been rescheduled for March 17.
