Middle School Canes Win Opener

MIDDLE SCHOOL CANES BEGIN SEASON WITH WIN

The Jasper County Middle School baseball team traveled to Eatonton last Wednesday to face the War Eagles of Putnam County in the season opener.

Under the leadership of first year coach, Chuck Finch, the ’Canes posted their first win of the season 7-0.

Walt McMichael was on the mound for the ’Canes pitching five innings. McMichael had a strong outing with 11 strikeouts and gave up only two hits and two walks. Colt Kelly came in to close the game in the sixth inning. Kelly had one strikeout and one walk.
The offense for the ’Canes was led by Quincy Standifer who went 3 for 4 against the War Eagles. McMichael had two hits, and Quinton Standifer and Lane Thomas had one hit each.

The Middle School ’Canes traveled to Greene County yesterday and will travel to Social Circle Friday to face the Redskins. All games begin at 4:30 p.m.

Members of the 2011 Middle School team are Stephen Arena, Chad Cain, Jacob Cavender, Breylan Crowe, Taylor Fritz, Cain Gonzalez, Chase Helms, Colt Kelly, Walt McMichael, Garrett Scroggs, Tyler Seawright, Quincy Standifer, Quinton Standifer, Jordan Stone, and Lane Thomas.

Managers are Bryce Crawford, Westin Rabun, and Nile Martin.
