Ralph Gotel
Ralph Lee Gotel, Sr., 87, of Monticello, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Gotel was born August 1, 1923 in Jasper County, to the late Kelsey and Gertrude Gotel. He proclaimed his faith in Christ at an early age and joined Springfield Baptist Church in Monticello. He was later ordained a Deacon. He was educated in the Monticello public school system. Mr. Gotel was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Dorothy Mae Oliver Gotel. To this union eight children were born. He was a World War II veteran inducted in the Army in January 1943 and served until February 1946. He was a soldier in the 647th Quartermaster truck company having served in France and Germany.
After returning home, he was employed with E.G. Jordan and Company and Jordan Funeral Home for more than 40 years. Later, he married Mrs. Mildred Carter and they enjoyed gardening and fishing. Along with his parents and first wife, Mr. Gotel was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria J. Gotel, sister, Inez Eaford, brothers, Curtis Gotel and Grady Jackson, Jr.
Mr. Gotel leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Mildred M. Carter of Monticello; children, Walker and Jennifer Gotel, Nellie and Charlie Eubanks, and Jeanette and Ryan Abner, all of Covington, Raymond and Nellie Gotel, Vera and Willie Greene, and Michael and Marlyce Gotel, all of Monticello, and Ralph and Alicia Gotel of Social Circle.

Carr, Donte Jones, Jarus Jones, and Ashely Jones; great-grandchildren, Dontaveous Eubanks, Torrez Eubanks, Darius Eubanks, Tristian N. Little, Leneka K. Gotel, Jaela Gotel, Natalia S. Gotel, Raquiya Eubanks, Kyla L. King, Kaden R. Gotel, William J.G. Gotel, Christopher Carr, Joshua Hingoo, Jordan Hingoo, and Tarun Hingoo; sisters and brothers, Lillie F. Jackson and Ella V. Thurman, both of Monticello, H.K. Gotel of Cliffwood, N.J., and Joseph Gotel of San Diego, Calif.
Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Rev. Nicholas Curry officiated.
Pallbearers were to be grandsons and nephews, flower bearers and granddaughters and nieces.
The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 25, 5-7 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Monticello.
