Needing a Revival

Happy New Year Everyone! I wish for each and every one of you a promising, prosperous, and healthy year ahead.

The theme I was working on for the first column of the New Year manifested itself in the form of a one word prayer at the home going services of a memorable community stalwart on Sunday.

That word is Revival. The minister channeled the wish of the dearly departed’s constant request for a ‘revival’ and it became clear to me that trying to write something on Resolutions (where I was going) became a moot point.

Besides, resolutions are so easily made and broken by so many of us as we begin each and every year full of hope and promise. But a revival?—well that is something else altogether.

The speaker asked for a revival for Monticello, Jasper County, all of our churches, our State, the Nation, the White House and our President. Yes we all need a revival.

I’d like to add to that list our national and local elected officials and our community leaders because we need a revival of the values and tolerance we established long ago when we were declared a Christian nation.

We need the representatives of the people to make laws that reflect the needs of the people along with the laws they so diligently enact to help businesses whose agenda is not always about providing jobs for the American people so that they can help themselves.

We need our government to put forth an agenda that focuses on growth and the health and protection of the citizens of our nation. We as a nation have not always been perfect but in this 21st Century and the uncertainty we face, nothing should be based on just being loyal to a party or a specialized group anymore.

We witness daily the destruction of our fellow man just because they disagree with us and our politics (a word that definitely needs a revival) or simply because they don’t believe like we believe, or look like we do. Yet we keep ‘praying’ to become better people each year.

Our intentions are noted because they have an impact on the way we think and behave in our society, but we need a revival because as human beings we are divine creations that have the power to create a prosperous, peaceful and loving world.
I think we need a revival…I’m just saying
