History and Love
February is the month of love and honor. Love because of Valentine’s Day when we show appreciation for our loved ones and honor because we celebrate Black History Month.
I acknowledge and pay homage to all the pioneers and courageous souls that made a lasting impact on the world of African Americans and the world.
Locally we embrace and thank our heroes who started businesses in the face of adversity, those who stood up and spoke out for basic human rights of a downtrodden people and those who achieved noteworthy fame.
To all of them I express my sincere thanks and appreciation for their efforts and we look forward to generations of the new warriors who are making and leaving their mark on the world.
This Black History Month of the year 2011, I would like to acknowledge and honor the people of Egypt for their conviction and courage to challenge the oppressive rule over their lives.
We have heard about revolt and the ensuing bloody and heartless response by the oppressors but in these modern times we were eye witnesses to a peaceful and determined revolution with a single focus – ‘remove the oppressive rule over our lives and the lives of our children.’
Now we see citizen unrest in several Middle East countries where the modern day internet sparked the fire and fans the flames in the yearning for freedom and human rights.
To all of the people of color in the countries fighting for change in a society where their rights are nonexistent, I acknowledge and honor you for Black History month.
