Law Enforcement Recap for 2010
According to Jasper County Sheriff Charles Roper, his investigators are pursuing positive leads in the recent break ins, however, no arrests have as yet been made.
Concerning the overall crime situation in the county for the past year, Sheriff Roper said, “We’ve had a goal of having a greater impact on drug sales, and I think we have made a great deal of progress, as attested to by the numerous drug arrests we’ve made. We’re also proud of the decrease we’ve seen in family violence.
“Only until recently have we seen crime escalate which could be related to the economy, such as burglaries and break-ins. And we have also seen the theft of metals increase as the price of metal increases. Also, in the latter half of the year we saw an increase in the number of mental health and prison transports.
“It has been a difficult budgetary year, but we did manage to replace our canine.”
The population of the Jasper County Jail recently hit 40, however, the sheriff said the approximate average head count of inmates is usually in the high 30’s.
