Mat Cougars off to a Promising Start

The Piedmont Academy wrestling program had a hectic week but had positive results to show for it.
The varsity wrestlers competed at the Bulloch Team Duals Saturday in Statesboro as coach Darrell Young said Piedmont “got plenty of mat time.” Sophomore Patrick Berg earned several pins at 119 and finished 4-4 for the entire week.
Teammate Mills Smith, a freshman, was 5-4 overall with three pins at 125. Freshman Malik Reid was 6-2 for the week at 130 pounds and managed four pins.
Eighth grader Alex Parish managed two pins at 140 while Payden Cantera, also an eighth grader, was 4-1 at 189 with two pins.
Freshman Evan Harvey was only able to wrestle once during the week at 135. Heavyweight Austin Corley has been injured following football season and has not been able to compete.
