Sayin’ A Lot of Thanks

I traveled recently and found myself needing to be searched for carrying or wearing something that set off the alarm as I went through the checkpoint at the airport.

The airport person took me aside and requested (very loudly I might add) that ‘a female search person was needed right away.’
Knowing I was not putting anyone in the airport or traveling on my scheduled flight at any kind of risk of danger, I kindly agreed to be ‘searched.’

Yes I was subjected to the full body search and yes the search person came very close to my ‘junk’ and I didn’t like it but I didn’t complain because I felt it was the sacrifice I had to make to know that their purpose is to catch the crazies willing to blow themselves, and us, up on an airplane. These crazies are our enemies.

My question is what are we when we complain so vehemently about the procedure designed to keep us safe? Do we then become our own enemies?

I do wonder though if the current pat down or scanning procedure would have caught the underwear bomber before he got to detonate his bomb (thankfully he failed)?

We need to be willing to accept ‘something’ in order to stay as safe as possible, be it a full body scan or a full body pat down. We are such an impatient populace we don’t want to have to sacrifice anything yet we demand that we be kept safe.

How is that to be done to satisfy us without our participation?…I’m just saying.

When politics is being played for politics sake I have to speak on it in defense of whether Black Americans should not say when they are proud of their country. This assertion offends me because as a history buff I am more than aware of America’s history of abuse and mistreatment of members of the Black race.

I am not preaching about it and sincerely hope for peace and forgiveness about a history that is not stellar. When people feel the need to slam someone because they have a moment of being proud of the actions of its people on a special occasion I have to ask what is that person’s core beliefs?

Seems to me one must know history, facts, and the context in which a statement like that is made. But if that person is unwilling to know and speak facts then condemnation is all they have all the while calling themselves Christians.

I do wonder how minorities will be treated by some of the winners of the ugliest and most racist political campaigns I’ve ever witnessed. I just want to know how they plan to govern the ‘people.’

Are they and their followers just hoping for a utopia of a one race nation where all others are not considered true citizens of this country? Civility oh Civility you are so missing in our day to day political discourse!!

On the home front…Is it unpatriotic to steal an American flag? Or, is that considered patriotic because it was The Flag being stolen for what was probably viewed as a ‘patriotic’ purpose?…
On a personal note, I am so excited I’m just beside myself. My best friend and award winning playwright Celeste Bedford Walker and I were in New York to start the process of getting one of her plays to Broadway.

The first read before a group of Broadway producers and investors was extremely successful and got a commitment from two investors! The next read is in a few weeks and we are expected to get others interested. The bright lights of Broadway are shining…I’m just saying.

Thanksgiving is the time that we get together as a family and eat to no end, give thanks for what we have and start to wear the coat of brotherhood for the coming season.
Wear your coat well and spread the love…Happy Thanksgiving all.
