Will Wade was honored by Boy Scout Troop 331 at a ceremony Sunday at Monticello First United Methodist Church honored as he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Boy Scouting.
Will has been member of Boy Scout Troop 331 for five years. He was a member of Cub Scout Troop 331 for two years as well.

During his time as a Boy Scout, he joined the Order of the Arrow, Brotherhood, and has committed to the lifelong support of Scouting.
Will worked with Jasper County Primary School for a large community project to finish his requirements in earning his Eagle rank.
At the primary school, he hosted an Earth Day event where each class made stepping-stones for the outdoor classroom. With the help of his troop, he refurbished their outdoor classroom.

The pond was completely emptied, cleaned, repaired, and refilled with new plants and a new pump. The classroom itself was landscaped with new perennials. The fence was repaired and weather proofed as well. The sign was also repainted. New picnic tables were built and donated for the classes to use.

Will had earned 33 different merit badges at the time he earned his Eagle rank. To be a Eagle Scout 21 merit badges are required, and that includes 12 particular ones that are mandatory.

Also during his Scouting experience he has served as Troop Patrol leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Quarter master, and Historian.
Will plans to continue to support Scouting and earn his “palms” which require dedication and assistance to his troop after achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

Will is the son of Matt and Amy Wade of Monticello. He is a sophomore at Jasper County High School.

Wiil’s grandfather, Bill VanderHorst, lives in Con-yers and was able to be there for the occasion. During the ceremony, Will displayed his grandfather’s Boy Scout uniform and talked about how so many parts of Scouting have not changed and named his grandfather as his Eagle Mentor.
