‘Canes Prepare for Basketball Season

The varsity ‘Canes traveled to Jackson this past Saturday for a scrimmage game with the Red Devils and prevailed in overtime 50-47.
New Head Basketball Coach Herbert Stokes said, “We still have a lot of work to do. We turned the ball over and missed a lot of easy shots. We made a lot of mistakes and should have won the game without overtime.”

Cuts were due to be made yesterday to pare the team down to 14 players before the team travels next Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 22 and 23, to Decatur for the Tip-Off Tourney. They’ll face Decatur at 8:30 p.m. on Monday and either play at 5:30 or 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, depending on what happens in the first game.

After the Thanksgiving holiday, the first action is scheduled at home on Friday, Dec, 3, versus Social Circle at 7:30 pm.
The Lady ‘Canes overwhelmed the Lady Red Devils 35-21 in regulation time. Under veteran head coach Dionka Davis-Jackson, the ladies will begin their season this Saturday, Nov. 20, when they travel to Thomson and take on Washington-Wilkes at 5:30 p.m.

After that game the Lady ‘Canes will travel to the Tip-Off Tourney also and are scheduled to play Central Gwinnett at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, and then play again on Saturday at 4 or 7 p.m. depending on the outcome of the first game.

Then on Friday, Dec. 3, the ladies game will precede the boys at 6:30 p.m. versus Social Circle at home.

The JV boys and ladies, under Coach John Hopper, will begin their season on December 3 at home versus Social Circle at 4 and 5:30 p.m.
