BOA to Get Funds from Revenue Department
During the Jasper County Board of Tax Assessor’s (BOA) regular monthly meeting last Thursday, Chief Appraiser Lynn Bentley informed the BOA of the Department of Revenue’s announcement that under the Forest Land Protection Act (tracts over 200 acres) the agency would begin reimbursements to the county of approximately $300,000, to be completed by the end of the year.
Ms. Bentley also announced that her office had been contacted by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Historic Aerial Photography Office (USDA) to ask for assistance in informing the public about the availability of historic aerial photography of Jasper County.
USDA aerial photos are high resolution images taken during the growing season and clearly show features such as roads, building, vegetation, trees and waterways, and go back to 1955.
The USDA is of the opinion these historic photos would be of great interest to the general public. More information concerning obtaining these photos can be found at: www.apfo.usda.gov, or by contacting the county assessor’s office.
