Trophy Wall Attracts Many to Square Saturday

Nearly 60 Deer Mounts from Jasper County Are Displayed

The second annual Whitetail Classic Trophy Wall was deemed a success by local organizers, who said that a lot of people came to learn what Deer Capital is all about.

There was lots of information disseminated, and many people learned about the mission of Deer Capital.

The purpose of Deer Capital is to promote education, conservation and heritage. Deer Festival hopes to grow the deer in Jasper County, so the county again has a reputation that attracts hunters from all over the place.

Representatives of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) were on hand during Saturday’s event to answer questions about hunting and tell interested persons how to score the deer.

Many people who viewed the wall expressed amazement at the size of the deer from Jasper County.

Deer Capital merchandise was sold, and remains available at a number of area merchants. It will also be sold at the Deer Festival on November 6. In addition, a raffle is being held to raise money for Deer Capital, and tickets are still available.

Several people joined the organization Saturday, and received decals and posted signs. They also are eligible for discounts on merchandise and on the annual dinner. They will also be eligible to attend seminars for free.

Several deer mounts will again be on display at the 44th annual Deer Festival.

Deer Capital organizers can help hunters seeking official scoring which will be used for prizes at the Deer Festival and again at the Whitetail Classic banquet set for Friday, Jan. 21.
