David Gault Seeks House

David Gault

David Gault is the Democratic contender for the State House seat vacated earlier this year by Jim Cole (R) Forsyth.

Mr. Gault will face Republican Susan Holmes, former mayor of Monticello.

Mr. Gault is married and the father of five children and has three granddaughters. He is a veteran of two terms in the U.S. Navy, one of which he served on an aircraft carrier that helped run the Cuban blockade. He is a former Jones County Commissioner.

His first involvement in the political process was in 1991 when he attempted to secure fire protection for parts of Jones County that were not covered. He first ran for the Jones County Commission in the 2000 elections, was elected, and served the county as the Vice-Chairman from January 2001 until December 2009.

He is an advanced certified county commissioner and has completed the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia leadership academy.

“I qualified for election to serve this district in the Georgia Legislature because too many things have happened in state government that really disturbed me during these last four years,” said Mr. Gault. “Some of these more notable blunders include the state’s cancellation of the Homestead Exemption. This action has resulted in transferring a major portion of government service costs to the property owners of this state. The dramatic cuts in education funding, (which have all been blamed on the economic downturn), school teacher furloughs and the overall misdirection of state funding priorities,” he said.

My pledge to you includes a specific plan to accomplish what I have promised:

•Introduce and/or support legislation to provide a more accurate, accountable system for commercial entities, to report and re-enforce the state collection of sales taxes.

•Assure the state distributes, in a timely manner, all of the collected revenues to the counties from which they were collected.

•Upgrade the computer software to accomplish numbers one and two above.

•Vigorously support reinstatement of the Homestead Exemption, (at the very least for senior citizens).

•Support legislation to review and close loopholes in revenue collection laws which will assure that all business and personal tax burdens are fairly distributed.

•Work for added emphasis on attracting new industry which will create more new jobs for our citizens.

“I am a strong believer in applying for any and all funding grants that will enhance our industrial viability, and at the same time, reduce the financial burden from our taxpaying citizens. Whether through sales tax, fuel tax, property tax, or user fees, every dollar that the state spends without this help is a dollar that could have been saved or spent elsewhere.

“We need to get better control of our spending policies/priorities. By being more fiscally conservative we might be able to reduce taxes or restore some of the services that have been cut. We must not continue to balance our state budget by reducing support for the education of our children.

“I pledge to you, the citizens of the 125th House District, that I will always be available to listen to you and will put your personal and family interests first in my service to this district.
Mr. Gault also works as a substitute teacher, and has been endorsed by the Georgia Association of Educators.
