Armed Robber Hits Store Here
An armed robbery took place Saturday night at the Monticello Food Mart, just off the Square, at the corner of Greene and Towhee Streets. According to information from the victim the perpetrator was a black male approximately 6’ 5” tall wearing a ski mask.
The victim also said he recognized the voice of the robber as a customer who had come into the store and bought a drink prior to returning with a hand gun and wearing a mask. After robbing the store of an undisclosed amount of cash the robber fled on foot heading west on Greene Street.
According to the authorities no arrest has been made in the incident. The store had just reopened two months ago under new management after being closed for several months.
Also, during the period of September 14-21 the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the arrest of Artagus Devance Mohorne, 34, with no address given, and charged him with possession/manufacture/distribution of a controlled substance.

During this same period officers with the MPD responded to 53 calls for service including nine stopping suspicious person/vehicle, eight subject needs officer, four crowd disbursement, three each alarm and escort or convoy, two each prowler report, mechanical break down, juvenile complaint and argument.
Also, one each burglary, armed robbery, assist motorist, intoxicated pedestrian, theft by taking, mental person, short/breath, trouble unknown, music/noise complaint, threatening/harassing calls, vandalism of property, road hazard, VGCSA, forgery, seizure and sick.
Also during this period, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported the following arrests:
Shelley Leigh Brown, 23, Newborn—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, registration or license violation and failure to maintain lane.
James Thomas Oliver, 65, Helena—Jasper County Superior Court bench warrant and child support.
Linda Lou Holland, 49, Conyers—probation violation.
Rachel Lynn Foley, 29, Conyers—child support.
Kerry Britt Treadwell, 42, Monticello—probation violation and harassing phone calls.
Damiel Quan Middlebrooks, 20, Monticello—probation violation.
Jeffery Lee Hardy, II., 20, Mansfield—disorderly conduct.
Jake Keith Hyde, 17, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
Patricia Ann Corbisiero, 48, Newborn—obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
Richard Edmond Dube, 36, Covington—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and seat belt violation.
Michael Theodore Dube, 34, Covington—seat belt violation and disorderly conduct.
Oliver Northous Jackson, 23, Monticello—probation violation.
John Robert Dempsey, 36, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
Deputies with the JCSO also responded to 165 calls for service during this same period, including 36 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 24 subject needs officer, 10 accidents, nine mechanical breakdown, eight alarm, six each pick up prisoner and threatening/harassing calls, four each attempt to serve warrant, domestic and discharge firearms.
Also, three each dog disturbance, burglary, livestock on road, intoxicated driver, escort or convoy, theft by taking music/noise complaint and argument, two each prowler report, juvenile complaint, trouble unknown, abandoned vehicle and transport of patient, one each 911 hang up, fight, armed robbery, assist motorist, speeding auto, fire alarm, mental person, wanted/stolen be on lookout, dead deer on road, missing person, extra patrol, welfare check, child custody case, road rage, private property, vandalism of property, road hazard, trespassing and persons refuse to leave.
In addition, the Department of Natural Resources reported the arrest of Willaim Alfred Freret, VI, 41, of Decatur, and charged him with being under the influence of alcohol or drugs on a wildlife management area and illegal consumption of alcohol on a wildlife management area.
