Dooley’s Cougars?

Prior to Piedmont’s football game last Friday against the Briarwood Buccaneers in Warrenton, fans from both schools had the opportunity to attend a book signing with former University of Georgia football coach and Athletic Director Vince Dooley.

Coach Dooley was invited to Briarwood by a parent of the school. He is the author and co-author to several books including his latest, Vince Dooley’s Garden: A Horticultural Journey of a Football Coach.

Other books the coach has written include: Dooley’s Play Book, A Tiger Walk through History: The Complete Story of Auburn Football from 1892 to the Tuberville Era, Vince Dooley’s Tales from 1980 Georgia Bulldogs, Echoes of Georgia Football: The Greatest Stories Ever Told, How ‘bout Them Dawgs, Georgia Saturdays: Between the Hedges, What it Means to be a Bulldog: Vince Dooley, Mark Richt and Georgia’s Greatest Players, Dooley’s Dawgs: 40 Years of Championship Athletics at the University of Georgia, Developing a Superior Football-Control Attack, and Dooley’s Dawgs: 25 Years of Winning Football at the University of Georgia.

Coach Dooley was so gracious spending as much time as needed with the fans of Georgia football. One could bring a book from home or purchase a book at the signing. He took time out to speak to both teams and share some “words of wisdom” with the young adults.

He took a photo with the coaches, team players, and individuals. Prior to the game, Coach Dooley flipped the coin for the team captains. Piedmont won the toss but deferred to the second half.

It was a memorable night for the Cougars—meeting a legend in the game of football, winning the ball game, and breaking the school record of points scored held by the 2002-2003 football squad. The Cougars won 62-32. Hanging on the table where the legendary coach sat was an autographed jersey from the great Herschel Walker of Wrightsville, one of the many stars Dooley had the opportunity to coach.
