Football Contest Begins Next Week

The Monticello News will kick off the 2010 football contest season next Thursday, Sept. 2, with a mix of high school, college, and professional games for amateurs and professionals to attempt to figure out who the winner will be.

Each week the player who correctly picks the most winners will collect a prize worth at least $25 from one of the football contest sponsors.

It’s an easy game, and costs nothing to enter. But, there is a catch! The contest comes out in Thursday’s paper, and contestants have only until 5 p.m. Friday to get their entry to The Monticello News office.

Now, serious players know they can buy a paper at various locations around the county on Wednesday night to get a head start on reseraching the upcoming games, but those who wait to get it in the mail or buy it after work Friday, may not have time to do as much research.

Not to worry, though, there is no evidence that being well-prepared really ups a player’s chances of winning. We’ve had very young youngsters win, as well as people who admit to just picking out of the blue.

The best part is that at the end of the season one player will receive four tickets to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl featuring the ACC vs. the SEC. And that player does not have to be a weekly winner.
As long as he or she scores enough to get on the honor roll, he or she is in the drawing. Every time a name is added to the honor roll, or a player has subsequent wins he gets another chance to win the grand prize.

So, sharpen your pencils, get out your playbook, and prepare to play the best gridiron game around!
