Lady Cougars Win Close One
After suffering several disappointing, close setbacks, the Piedmont Academy softball team ended up on the winning side of one such game Monday.
The Lady Cougars defeated Mt. de Sales 6-5 in what coach Danny Camp called a “big win” for his squad. Piedmont scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Kacy Swart walked with the bases loaded allowing Randi Small to cross home for the winning margin.
“It was big for us to win the way we did,” Camp said. “We had struggled getting wins in some close games, but we kept working and it paid off.”
Destiny Walker had a key three-run double in the contest while Small finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Freshman Brittany Germany also had a big day going 3-for-4 for the Lady Cougars.
Last week Piedmont fell to Gatewood 5-3 in another of its close games of 2009.
“We played well,” Camp said of the game played last Thursday. Gatewood has a good team. We just didn’t have any breaks. They just made the plays.”
In 10-of-12 games this season, the Lady Cougars have held leads at some point.
Piedmont will play two games Saturday at Strong Rock. The first will be against Arlington at 11 a.m. followed by a contest against LaGrange at 1 p.m.
