Willard Washington Brownlee

Willard Washington Brownlee of Mansfield, 62, a retired United States Marine died suddenly, August 21, 2009, in Jermyn, Texas.

Mr. Brownlee was born January 18, 1947, in Tucker to the late James E. and Daisy Cook Brownlee. He attended Lilburn High School until he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1965 where he served proudly for 13 years until 1978. He attained the rank of Staff Sargeant.

Will, known to many as Mr. Will or Pops, was well known for his friendly smile, generosity, honesty, patriotism to his country, and high moral standards. He was well loved throughout the communities in which he lived.

He enjoyed gardening, playing with the grandchildren, trout fishing, shooting squirrels and playing with his beloved dog, Bandit.

He was united in marriage on April 5, 1974 to Sherry Stone Brownlee, who survives him.

Other survivors include children, SSG Marty Brownlee and Autumn Reese Brownlee of Monticello, Michele Brownlee Gue and Mark Gue of Covington, Melissa (Missy) Brownlee Finger and Ralph Finger, also of Mansfield, Betty Brownlee Thompson and Rev. Brad Thompson, Jermyn, Texas, 15 grandchildren, Brittney, Jacob, Bradley (BJ), Emily, Taylor, Blake,Cameron, Shelby, Elizabeth(Lilbit), Loren, Brandon, Tyler and Madison (Maddie), Arley and Jennifer; a great-grandchild, Daisy.

Also, sisters, Myrtle Brown, Joyce Brodnax, Bonnie Hayes, Martha Murphy, Linda Oliver, and Barbara O’Connor; a brother, David Brownlee, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James (Jimmy) Brownlee.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, from 6-9 p.m. and services will be on Friday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at Sherrell Wilson Magham Funeral Home in Jackson, with Rev. Brad Thompson and Ed Lewallen officiating. Burial will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton with full military honors.
