Ga. Champs Lose 15-14 Heartbreaker

Jasper County’s Dixie Darlings began play in the loser’s bracket on Sunday morning after losing to Mississippi Saturday.

The seven and eight year old girls faced a team from Arkansas at 9 a.m.

As on Saturday, the girls made some terrific catches and other plays, but fell short once or twice and that was all it took for Arkansas to come out the winner, 15-14.
Head Coach Karla Tuggle said it did not help that the scoreboard didn’t work Sunday. Her highly-competitive group of girls like to know what the score is at all times. The girls really rallied in the fourth, making the game super close, but they faltered in the fifth, losing their second game and having to come home.

The girls were given a send-off on Thursday when the Chamber of Commerce and area merchants and individuals held a fun day/fundraiser on the Square. Rain poured, so it was moved inside to the 8 Count.

Kyle George of Congressman Jim Marshall’s office read a congratulatory letter to the team, and everyone enjoyed fresh baked goods and hamburgers and hot dogs.
