Cases Settled at Superior Motion Day
Judge Hugh Wingfield presided over a criminal motion day Tuesday in Jasper Superior Court, with several persons having probation revoked or modified.
In the first guilty plea Natasha Chatman pled guilty to four counts of executing/negotiating/printing of checks and drafts by using the account number and routing number assigned to Jasper County High School.
The four unlawful drafts were executed as check-by-phone payments on Ms. Chatman’s personal accounts as follows: On Jan. 31, 2005 in the amount of $251.85 payment to T-Mobile Wireless, on March 15, 2005 in the amount of $323.51 payment to Scanna Energy, on March 15, 2005 in the amount of $322.54 to Scanna Energy, and on March 21, 2005 in the amount of $445.51 to BellSouth.
Ms. Chatman was sentenced to five years to be served on probation, $1,322 in fines and fees, and restoration of $1,343.41 to the Jasper County Board of Education.
Two other guilty pleas were accepted:
Lagavious King pled guilty to interference with government property and was sentenced to 12 months to be served on probation and $294 in fines and fees,
James Lackey pled guilty to obstruction of officer and was sentenced to 12 months to be served on probation and fines and fees of $544.
Also, several probations revocation cases were resolved as follows:
•Charles Scott West, on probation for an aggravated assault conviction on Feb. 2, 2006, committed the new offense of battery in Spalding County. Mr. West was ordered to be released from jail and be given credit for time served since Jan. 25, 2009 and returned to regular probation supervision as previously ordered.
•Danny Joe Carroll, on probation for the charges of interference with 911 call, simple battery and cruelty to children in the third degree on Nov. 3, 2008, committed the new offenses of failure to report, failure to pay fines and fees and failure to provide proof of completion of family violence counseling. Mr. Carroll was sentenced to 120 days in the Jasper County Jail with credit for time served and probation terminated.
•Samuel B. Ross had his probation revoked with no details available at this time.
